Just Us

I love you.

Sometimes I don't know
how to explain it
without making it sound too simple.

So I listen to my heartbeat
when I think about you.

It seems to know
what my words cannot.

It beats a little differently,
as if somewhere inside me
your name has become
part of its rhythm.

Just us.

That is all I want sometimes.

No perfect world.
No promises written in gold.
No need to pretend
that we have everything figured out.

Just you beside me,
talking about nothing,
laughing at something silly,
and making an ordinary moment
feel like somewhere
I have always wanted to be.

I think loneliness
would feel uncomfortable here.

There would be nowhere
for it to sit.

The chair beside me
already belongs to you.

The space in my arms
knows your shape.

Even the quiet
feels different
when I imagine you in it.

Our bond is strange
in the best possible way.

I cannot touch it,
but I feel it.

It follows us
through crowded places
and quiet nights.

It survives the hours
when we cannot speak.

Sometimes I imagine
our hearts as two small lights
walking through a very dark world.

They don't need to shine
for everyone.

They only need
to find each other.

And somehow,
they always do.

If the world became too loud,
I would take your hand
and disappear with you
into a little corner
where the clocks have stopped.

We could sit there
until the stars became tired.

We could say nothing.

I would still understand you.

That is what loving you feels like,

not fireworks every day,
not a perfect story,

but something quieter.

Something that stays.

Something that reaches for me
even when I am not reaching back.

So if you ever wonder
where you belong,

come closer.

There is a place here
that loneliness cannot enter.

There is a heartbeat
waiting to meet yours.

There is me.

There is you.

And for a little while,
there is nothing else.

Just us.
