Then You Were Gone
Gone forever. How do I move on?

Then You Were Gone
You sat beside me with your hand near mine
Talking of futures and warmer times
Nothing around us suggested farewell
No warning shadow, no funeral bell
The kettle was boiling, the curtains half drawn
Ordinary moments before you were gone
One second breathing beneath soft lamplight
The next just silence swallowing night
People say death comes peaceful and slow
Sometimes it strikes before anyone knows
One sudden collapse, one unfinished breath
A whole world shattered in moments by death
Then you were gone and the room changed shape
Air turning heavy impossible to escape
Even the walls seemed colder somehow
Still I can barely believe it now
Your glasses remained by the side of the chair
The scent of your soap still clung to the air
Everything ordinary twisted with pain
Nothing familiar felt gentle again
I called your name though I knew it too late
Grief makes the heart argue hard against fate
Part of me waits for your key in the door
Certain you’ll walk through and smile once more
Then you were gone simple hard and abrupt
Leaving behind all the love interrupted
Some goodbyes never feel fully real
No matter how many years fail to heal
