The World Between Us

a poem in axioms

1. We are equal but not the same.

1.3 We are equal inasmuch as we are intelligible to each other.

1.5 There is always that, in us, which is not inteligible to the other.

2. We become inteligible to the other through our representations.

2.1 Yet, we are never merely our representations, or so the other thinks.

2.3 It is possible to be attracted to a representation of ourselves. But, the world is not a mirror.

2.33 This is so even if we manage to mirror it in our representations.

2.7 The master understands this.

2.75 However, it is occasionally forgotten that mirrors are still made.

2.76 A mirror that is made, cannot be unmade, even if the reflection changes.

2.85 Permanence always takes something from us; the making of it? Perhaps, to begin with.

2.9 To recognize that which is eternal I need to understand what the other believes to be permanent.

3. In this sense, among others, we are not yet free.
