I gave you the weapon
and offered the vein
you brought armageddon
and fueled the flame
a hell formed from heaven
emotions were tamed
you left quite an impression
and discarded the blame
But books cannot be killed with fire
stolen ideas, desires and fame
you changed your decisions
and the rules to the game
I provided provisions
as my will had been tamed
changing positions
as easy as a name
But books cannot be killed with fire
years of oppression
weighted down by the stress
weighing answers to the questions
attempts to clean up this mess
controlled substance and behaviors
how we talk and we dress
trading favors and saviors
new passageways to success
But books cannot be killed with fire
hidden way in the back
in peripheral view
a secret plan for attack
to take it all back from you
patiently awaiting commands
till the red light turns green
under the light on the stand
we're re-writing the scene
Because books cannot be killed with fire
hard learned lessons from the past
taught us words are the key
to take back what was lost
and save humanity
because what we say
may not be written in stone
but the heart knows the way
and those words cannot be owned
Books cannot be killed with fire
