the wise owl and the clever wolf

faster than the wind

from up high the wise owl lurks,

observing the forest at night.

he sees subtle movements, and

in the dark remains hidden.

he knows this home well, and

this bird of prey is hungry.

tonight, the sly, wise owl hunts,

the scourge from above comes,

and the forest fears his shadow,

too late once they notice.

tonight is some creature's last,

but none of them know yet,

and that wise owl waits, still,

for the perfect time to strike.

most distracted by the rat race

the shadow comes with focus, so

that mouse never had a chance,

just looking for his own dinner,

just trying to live like the rest

and in one foul swoop his end.

once satisfied with his catch,

the wise owl now sees more.

unsettled as the forest yet stirs.

he doesn't know what he didn't see,

but he was not the only predator

to stalk to darkness of the forest.

not quite as wise, but twice as wily,

the clever wolf moves in fast,

quicker than the chance escapes

when opportunity comes his way.

as the owl thought the kill was his,

that clever wolf pounced swift

and he was faster than the wind.

he took flight back down to earth,

and then he ate it.
