The whims and fancies of adulthood

an ode to adulthood

By Hridya SharmaPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

The art of pragmatism beheld its charm,

Expectations and breakdowns walked arm in arm.

Captivated by the desire, bound to duty,

Every ugly truth embosoms its bewildered beauty

Laughter in bounty moment calls,

With quiet commotions its silences with a fall.

Sadness in giant gallops embraces me,

The joy of adulting encompasses the merriment of melancholy.

An accolade to the nights that we in defiance suffer,

Mother’s lap feels like a blanket of warm summer.

In stillness, I find the solace of the stride,

Revitalizing myself to fight against life,

That awaits no time and tide.

Capturing the essence of existence,

With the bareness of the soul,

The sound of the camera confines the uncertainty,

Surmounting the beat of mankind in a tiny whole.

Transitioning into the shades of grey,

Rolling between the darkness of the mind and the hope of the starry ray.

Loneliness strikes the chord of the heavy heart,

Betrayals and lost friendships tore the spirit apart.

We are all warriors with wandering minds

Pouring every ounce of courage into our day.

To rest our hope in the eternal stream and pray.

Pray for a home to find.

Where we do not dive deep into our sleep,

To escape from the promises, we are meant to keep.

Where we find ourselves alive,

Gratifying our blessing of life.

Until then

Concealing our sorrows benevolent we stood,

Bearing the sadness and joys of adulthood

Perhaps this poem was meant to find you in the nick of time,

To strengthen the belief in you,

To love yourself in the hard climb.
