The Whale Upstairs

The quiet truth of apartment living

is a lie in itself

Theres no quiet and theirs no peace

Its always there

a sound

a pulse

the whooshing of the dishwasher

the whirl of the neighbors washing machine

of course they have a dog

could you train it to be quiet

i think every time i hear it whine

stuck inside on this snowy day

the beast just wants to be free

to run in the woods and chase the birds

pacing the space of the floor upstairs

every step sounds like a stampede

i just want some quiet to hear my thoughts

but this is life in the city

a life full of noise

it's the hustle and bustle of everyday life

living in an apartment with a whale upstairs
