The Wall
Breaking through our defenses to reach each other's soul
THE WALL
By: Steven Dean
--
Life can be hard
Pain will always scar
Putting up your guard
Can’t go too far
----
You can’t open your heart
If all you do is shield
Moving farther apart
With wicked words you yield
----
Defenses gather
From repeated assaults
Will kindness matter
Harboring many faults
----
Safety is won
Breaking many connections
Where we begun
Losing all our affections
----
Now we know
How it must go
To mend it so
The answer is no
We must stop and prepare
Or risk never getting there
------
Now we come to realize
The work is tough
To reach the prize
Never enough
To start again
Where will it take us, in the end?
------
So with this knowledge
We impart
The balance comes
Not apart
It’s time to say, this simple fact:
-----
There is a wall between us
You can’t go over it
Under it
Or around it
The only way to break through it
Is to accept the fact that it’s there
