The Waiting Game

The Silent Pain of Unreturned Affection

By RKPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

I check my phone, again and again,

Wondering when you'll send a message, a sign,

Maybe, just Maybe, you're thinking of me too.

But the screen stays dark, and the silence grows louder,

And I'm left here, lost in a fantasy,

Where you care as much as I do.

Everyone says they'll call,

But they don't, do they?

It's all just words, empty and hollow,

Promising connection, but delivering nothing.

Still, I can't help but hope,

That you're different, that you'll be the one.

My heart races each time it buzzes,

Only to fall when it's not your name that appears.

I tell myself it's just a game,

That I shouldn't care so much,

But the truth is, I do.

I care too much,

And that’s the problem.

So I sit here, staring at the phone,

Hoping, wishing, waiting.

But deep down, I know the truth:

If you really wanted to call, you would have.

And yet, I keep hoping,

That maybe, just maybe, you will.
