The Trophy Lover

Possession isn't Affection

You spark a fire in me

That never seems to die out.

Your spark is like a hell’s flame

Always burning and ready to crash out

Over me and everybody who thinks they can take me away from you

I thought this was love

But when you told me

“You belong to me.”

I couldn’t shake this feeling

That something was off.

Your words and actions never aligned

Unless doubt and uncertainty clouded my mind.

That’s the only time our worlds would align

As if you were reading my mind.

You’d show me off for all to see

Saying I love you

And yet still embarrassing me.

You’re like a champion who wants all the glory

While I’m stuck in your grasp as a trophy.

“You belong to me.”

Echoes in my head

And makes me question

Is this love or is this an obsession?

I don’t know the difference

Because you tell me all of these sweet beautiful nothings

That convince me that this might turn into something.

You bring me out and shower me with affection

But that’s only in public when it’s time for you to brag.

You show me off and use me

Then toss me aside like I was a cum rag.

Yet I still ask myself

Is this love or is this an obsession?

Never wanting to ask the real question

Am I simply just your possession?
