She keeps him in her garden

until the moon has found its place

Every year she makes a bargain

as she stitches up his face

The sunlight warms the air

until the veil starts getting thin

And then you'd best beware

October nights belong to him

All year long the ravens tease and taunt

ruthlessly tearing at his seams

His cheeks are drawn and gaunt

taking new forms in dreamers dreams

He's waited all year long

to have the chance to haunt again

He creeps onto the lawns

for trick or treating to begin

She grants an open door

shielding him with her fallen leaves

She stitched a sickle, like before

into his newly fitted sleeves

He blends so well, no one can tell

he is ready for his latest victim

October's deal and hallowed spell

until a new contract is written

Inching in, he spots his prey

he is ready to consume them

but porch lights declare, no, not today

back to his stake he is condemned

Yes, October has her secrets

hovering fog to hide them in

So when you come to visit

beware the scarecrow's crooked grin
