It came after a long year, dark and gray
I had my wall built up so high
and I liked it that way.
The bricks had no way through,
The height was unreachable
By everyone except you.
I watched as the bricks fell gracefully
One by one.
I let it happen so willingly
Surprised by my own resilience.
Pretending day in and day out
Was like drowning in a sea.
You made me feel like I could be myself
Because, who else would I be?
You caught me before I was depleted
And challenged me to care.
You caught me off guard
Yet, you felt so familiar.
And it was a soothing experience
In my mind.
A thrilling adventure
In my stomach
And a moment of peace
in my heart.
