The Things I Never Say

I hide them inside my chest for privacy

The Things I Never Say

There are things I never say aloud,
little pieces of truth
I keep folded inside my chest,
because not everyone deserves
to hear the deepest parts of me.

Sometimes I say I’m okay
because explaining the truth
would take more energy
than I have left to give,
so I smile and carry on.

Nobody sees the battles
that happen behind my eyes,
the memories that return at night,
the questions I ask myself
when the whole world has gone quiet.

I’ve loved people with everything,
even when they gave me very little,
and I’ve stayed too long
in places where my heart
was already begging me to leave.

I don’t regret loving, though.
I regret forgetting myself
while I was busy trying
to make somebody else
feel loved enough to stay.

Now I listen to my intuition,
that quiet voice inside me
that I once ignored
because I wanted someone else’s words
to be the truth.

I light my candles,
write my intentions,
hold my stones beneath the moon,
and remind myself
that my future is still mine.

I don’t need everyone to understand me.
Some parts of me were never meant
to be explained to strangers.
Some things are sacred
because they belong only to my soul.

And perhaps one day
I’ll say everything I kept hidden,
but until then I’ll keep becoming,
keep writing, keep dreaming,
and keep choosing myself.
