the sunset

it's a battle wound, a daily death that is timed perfectly and precisely.

the bleeding starts soft at first, faint strokes of pink and yellow etched above.

but then the deep cut begins and red spews all across the sky, followed

by pinks, oranges, and golden embers conquering heaven.

then, the thick. dark. colors eek and slither from the horizon outward. they snicker and chase the pinks and yellows, taking over their colors.

pretty soon, a flicker of a star will awaken. soon to show a consistent blare of light. another will follow, then its cousin, sister, and so on.

Ah! the night sky is wiping away the dusk, slowly breathing its cool breathe onto the coast. Stars giggle across the edge of a galaxy that we stand on.

thank you sunset for starting the "show of the night"! opening the curtain, dimming the lights, telling the actors "go".

it was a lovely show indeed, and i simply cannot wait until the next one tomorrow.
