The Sunset

Red burning like nothing will ever stop it

The SunsetThe Sunset

The Sunset

The sunset burned a fiery red,

Like all the words we never said,

It painted gold across the sky,

While I stood watching love goodbye.

The colours looked so warm and bright,

But underneath was pure goodnight,

It felt like we were finally through,

Yet every part still wanted you.

The evening breeze moved through my hair,

I looked around, but you weren’t there,

The sky was beautiful above,

But beauty couldn’t fix our love.

The sun sank slowly out of sight,

Taking the warmth away with light,

I told my heart that we were done,

But still it followed where you’d gone.

The stars appeared, the night grew cold,

And memories began to unfold,

Your voice, your smile, the things you’d say,

All the pieces I couldn’t throw away.

I knew that we were meant to end,

But endings don’t mean hearts will mend,

Sometimes you leave, but still remain,

A little heartbeat inside the pain.

So I carried on beneath that sky,

Pretending I was saying goodbye,

But somewhere underneath it all,

I still hoped you’d answer when I’d call.

That sunset red, so deep, so bright,

Still lives inside my mind tonight,

It looked like passion, looked like fire,

But underneath was lost desire.

And as the darkness filled the air,

I finally knew you weren’t coming there,

The sun had set, the day was done,

But my heart carried on, long after you’d gone.
