A knife through the heart, my heart in my hands

My hands tearing apart, things I can't understand

What tears can be cried, when the well is run dry

I have never been good, when it comes to goodbye

*

The years seem to go by, we've all heard them say

But the longer I live, it goes faster, each day

Bare bones gather dust, as hope waits, barely breathing

Offering what she must, as death circles me, wreathing

*

But a glimmer survives, a spark left to be fanned

Though I be weary and weak, firmly planted, I stand

For the dawn comes to rescue, from the waging of war

On the verge of reprise, as I wait on the shore

*

While the sand quickly passes, through the hourglass of life

I cling to what love is, every victory and strife

Quietly breathing, kept from crumbling to sea

Where hope, soft and lovely, keeps a vigil for me
