The Storm

The storm inside my heart

The Storm

My heart turned cold,
The warmth turned bitter,
The love had been taken,
I didn’t know what to do.
I sat and I wondered,
I cried so many tears,
But they all came from a heart
That was broken over you.

Once I thought we were so happy,
I could hold happiness in my hands,
I’d look into your loving eyes,
And they’d take me to foreign lands.

But everywhere we travelled,
There was always me and you,
Holding hands together,
Whatever life put us through.

But all too soon you changed, my love,
I cannot explain how or why,
You became the man who punched me down,
Who kicked me and made me cry.

You were once the man who loved me,
Who warmed my heart right through,
The one I thought I’d always love,
The one I longed to marry too.

And then, as though a genie
Had granted every wish inside,
There you stood in a black suit and tie,
And I, your blushing bride.

Where did it go? What happened?
How could something good turn bad?
I really, truly loved you,
Those were the best years that I had.

I don’t care about the punches,
I don’t care about the tears,
I’d give anything within my heart
To go back to those lovely years.

The years when you would hold me,
And make love to me at night,
When thunder shook the heavens,
You’d cuddle and hold me tight.

I was frightened of the lightning,
Of the storm outside our door,
But wrapped within your loving arms,
I feared the storm no more.

And now I sit here all alone,
Watching storms across the sky,
Remembering the man I loved,
And asking myself why.

The thunder rolls, the lightning strikes,
But there’s no one by my side,
Just memories of a love once shared,
And the tears I cannot hide.

I bow my head in silence,
As the storm goes passing by,
And with the tears that softly fall,
I whisper my goodbye.
