The Smile That Conceals Pain
a poem about a smile
The Smile That Conceals Pain
A smile that hides behind a facade
Of happiness and joy, but oh, so hard
To keep up, to maintain its charade
For behind it lies a pain that's scarred
A smile that hides the tears and sorrow
That flow like rivers deep inside
A smile that masks the hurt and agony
That one tries so hard to hide
A smile that's forced upon the lips
A smile that's not sincere
A smile that's meant to deceive
To hide the pain that's so clear
But behind the smile, the pain lingers on
It lingers on and on and on
It's a pain that cuts deep to the bone
A pain that's hard to outgrow
But still, the smile persists
It persists through all the pain
It's a smile that's meant to protect
A smile that's meant to gain
The strength to carry on, to keep moving forward
To keep going through the darkest days
The smile that conceals the pain
It's a smile that never fades
For behind the smile, there's a story to tell
A story of strength and resilience
A story of hope and determination
A story of the human spirit's existence
So don't be fooled by the smile
That hides behind the facade
For behind it lies strength and courage
That one can never erase
