The not so hidden meaning behind this poem:

The poem starts by talking about a silver ring with a number on it that is cheap. Therefore you have green circles on your fingers. And it stays there for about a day, but then you wear the ring continuously and have permanent green rings in place of your silver ring. Your friends and family tell you to get a new ring, and you say you will, but you never do, and you move the ring from finger to finger, permanently scarring your hands without a care in the world.

The more significant deeper meaning behind it:

You have someone [the ring if it was a person] who is always there for you and always helps you. Except you always push them away and disregard their meaningful advice completely. One day they tell you the most valuable thing, and once again, you aren't paying attention and brush it off.

The next day that person who is always there for you just all of a sudden stops being there for you. They start hanging out with other people who care for their advice, and you're left alone, with no one else who cares for you as much as that person did. Every day you miss them, and the only thing you have left is the marks [the emotional impact of their words] to comfort you. And then you realize that this whole time you've been meaning to change and listen to their advice, but you don't. Now all you have is the empty promises you once made with your friend.
