The drums of battle beat fiercely,

Fathers headed for the front lines.

Leaving his family and everything he held dear,

Not in the name of fear, but in the name of love.

Letters written in trembling hands.

of battles, of bloody sands.

But they also spelled out dreams and new hopes,

For the little children he barely knew.

He fell, but it was not in vain,

For the sacrifice of love is never meaningless.

In written history, in unsung songs,

His courage is forever young.

Courage is also recklessness.

What will it take to make it meaningful courage?

It may be love.
