The Shadow I Still Chase

A poem of longing that circles back like a memory that refuses to fade

By Kashif WazirPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

The longing stays, no matter how time moves on,

I whisper these words when the night feels too deep.

Your shadow returns even when you are gone.

I tell myself softly that the past is done,

Yet memories rise like waves that never sleep.

The longing stays, no matter how time moves on.

I walk through days pretending I am strong,

But your voice floats back, a promise I could not keep.

Your shadow returns even when you are gone.

Each quiet hour reminds me what went wrong,

And I hold my regret like something buried too deep.

The longing stays, no matter how time moves on.

I try to step forward, to find where I belong,

But my heart still searches for what it cannot keep.

Your shadow returns even when you are gone.

I tell myself, “One day this weight will be gone,”

But the truth is a flame that continues to burn and weep.

The longing stays, no matter how time moves on.

Your shadow returns even when you are gone.
