The Salamander Cursed the Rose
Thorns now can hurt and wound a heart

The Salamander Cursed the Rose
In the soil where secrets coil
a creature rose from ash and oil
his skin aglow with cobalt flame
a harbinger who bore no name
He found the rose in morning hush
its bloom as red as battle blush
and whispered low with venom breath
I curse your charm to deal out death
No lover’s hand shall pluck you now
no gentle cheek shall feel your bough
each thorn shall pierce with poisoned will
a kiss of beauty made to kill
The petals heard and did not cry
for flowers learn to bleed and lie
and so she stood in bloom and grace
with murder hidden in her face
Now garden soil her murderous bed
no worm will crawl where roots have fed
even the wind forgets her name
it fears the thorn that earned her flame
Yet still the salamander stays
unchanged across a thousand days
his curse a vow he can’t rescind
he watches what it brought to end
