The Runaway Groom
He waited in silence, sharp in grey
polished shoes, no words to say
The church door groaned, the aisle was long
he’d never felt so out of place, so wrong
The vows were printed, the band was cold
he stared at the weight he didn’t hold
He thought of the flat with the half-done wall
and the dog she named, and the pointless call
He loved her once, or thought he might
but not enough to fake it right
He needed out, not roses red
so he followed the voice inside his head
He didn’t cry, didn’t look behind
just left the suit and crossed the line
The car was waiting, his brother drove
past every trap and wedding grove
No speech, no note, no planned escape
just a breath he took, a final shape
They’ll say he snapped, or lost his spine
but some men know when it isn’t time
She wore the white dress like a princess
he walked away like a coward
