The Road We Never Took
Deep inside I wish we had

The Road We Never Took
We stood beside an open road,
Not knowing where it would have led,
We talked about the life ahead,
And all the things we might have said.
You wanted to go left that day,
I wanted to go right instead,
We both believed we had more time,
But somehow all the time had fled.
I sometimes wonder what we missed,
By choosing different ways to go,
Perhaps we would have stayed together,
Perhaps we never would have known.
The road we never took still stays,
Somewhere inside my memory,
A place where things may have worked out,
A place where you were still with me.
I think about the things we planned,
The little dreams we used to share,
I wonder if they could have grown,
If we had both remained right there.
But life will never tell us why,
Some roads are closed before we start,
Some choices stay with us for years,
And some remain inside the heart.
I cannot turn the clock around,
Or find the moment we went wrong,
I can only walk the road ahead,
And try to keep my memories strong.
Perhaps the road we never took,
Was never really meant to be,
But sometimes when I think of it,
I wonder what it held for me.
