How wide this chasm between us
Hate,
such an ugly word.
Usually preceded by the word “I”
I’ve used this word,
“I hate shrimp” for example.
When directed at others though it elicits an altogether
different response.
Driving a wedge, impossible to remove,
proven to rewire our very brains.
We’ve all used this word.
Where do we go from here?
How do we as emotional beings,
spit out this seed of hatred?
As it spreads across our lives, our world.
Once something such as this has been picked up,
it is not easily put down.
It is simmering just below the surface even now.
Still raw, this rift that has been pushed upon us, may heal.
With time, let us hope.
Though it will definitely leave a scar.
