My pillow is soft, but it’s not too soft

The blanket is tucked round my feet

The room smells like wild flowers after the rain

As I slip sleepily, in the sheets

******

The fan oscillates to the left and then right

The humming sound, a vibrating rhythm

The moon cascades off of the dark window pane

Creating a beautiful prism

******

Yet the sweet peace of sleep still eludes me

My eyes refuse to allow rest to come

My body is begging for slumber

But my running thoughts - will give me none

******

Sleeplessness commands another midnight

Like a beast prowls the darkness to feed

Callously becoming the master

Withholding my sweet dreams from me
