THE PRINCESS AND HER TWO LOVERS

Within a castle dressed in sorrow,
A princess wept beneath the moon,
She loved two hearts that promised tomorrow,
Yet knew one love must perish soon.

The first was born of royal blood,
A prince who offered her his throne,
He swore his love through fire and flood,
And vowed she’d never sleep alone.

The second wore no crown of gold,
A lonely knight with eyes of blue,
His heart held secrets never told,
Yet every whispered word was true.

By day she walked beside her prince,
By night her knight would steal her tears,
And though a thousand nights passed since,
She loved them both through all the years.

One gave her diamonds, pearls and lace,
The other kissed her trembling hand,
One promised her a royal place,
The other offered all his land.

But secrets have a cruel way,
Of finding light beneath the skies,
And on a cold November day,
Her prince saw love within her eyes.

He drew his sword against the knight,
And swore that one of them must die,
Two lovers fought beneath moonlight,
While she could only kneel and cry.

The knight fell wounded to the ground,
The prince stood broken by his side,
No victory in love was found,
For something in the princess died.

She took her crown and cast it down,
Upon the bloodstained castle floor,
And left behind her royal gown,
To walk where love could hurt no more.

Now two men haunt that castle wall,
And whisper of the love they lost,
A princess who had loved them all,
But paid with tears the cruelest cost.
