The Pauper's Pride

Or, The Fool's Gamble

By Daniel ColePublished 9 years ago 1 min read

What bittersweet escapade is this?

Raucous laughter buried in tears

For days and weeks and months and years

Seeking solace in morning's kiss

How dare we claim eternity

Then orchestrate the final scene

Through clouded window see broken dream

And hope for things not meant to be

When open eyes burn fickle flame

The hands of time we sought to hold

And winding on our hearts grew cold

Let loose the wrath we could not tame

Author and artist, I'm finding my spirit again late in life. Old passions for poetry borne of love, loss, hope and pain, things with which everyone is familiar.
