the colors of my rainbow

are out of order they say

they say there’s something queer

about my loud electric blue

caressing my gentle orange

that sweet sweet orange

holding hot chartreuse

that fiery green

in a love affair with periwinkle

and I’ve even let the gold in

and my colors have started to shine

from the inside out like clouds

each color radiant

unique

undefining

and free

yet some would dare to call me ugly

deem my composition “unnatural”

for they ‘d been taught an absolute

their tyrant Roy G Biv

holding them in chains

seeing no other way

no other way to be

but we, we will show the way

we they call unnatural

we they call queer

we will show the way

the way to make art

the way to paint passionately

the way to dance fearlessly

with the vibrant colors of our lives

we, we will show the way

the way to break through molds

the way to gracefully emerge

the way to fearlessly spread wings

and we, we will rightly soar

as luminescent

unapologetic

and free

inspirational
