The One Who Walked Beside Me

When I leave this mortal coil,
I hope my footsteps leave a mark.
I hope somebody remembers me,
When I have travelled through the dark.

I tried my best to live this life,
I tried to always do things right.
I stumbled more than once or twice,
But still I searched to find the light.

There were days, do not get me wrong,
When the sun refused to shine.
When tears came down like raindrops,
And every single tear was mine.

I hid my tears deep in my heart,
I zipped them safely out of sight.
I did not dwell, I carried on,
And waited for the morning light.

I thanked the universe each day,
For every blessing sent to me.
For every door that opened wide,
And every chance I could not see.

I dreamed about a better life,
I manifested what could be.
But God was living in my heart,
And walking every step with me.

When I walked lonely on the beach,
One set of footprints followed me.
I knew that I was not alone,
Although no other prints could be.

When I was weak, He carried me,
When I was lost, He held my hand.
Through poverty and troubled days,
He helped me somehow understand.

So manifest your hopes and dreams,
And thank the universe each day.
But keep the Lord within your heart,
For He will never walk away.

And when my final day arrives,
I know exactly what is sure.
The one who walked beside me,
Will be carrying me to Heaven’s door.
