The Night I Swore You Said It

I remember that night.

That one night.

That one time I swore—

if I let myself be bold,

if I let hope have a voice—

I almost heard you say it.

Those three words.

In the middle of the night.

Your arms wrapped around me,

tightening their grip—

like your body sensed

I was slipping away.

And I was -

Just Not like that.

I was just going to get water—

my mouth was dry.

Or maybe I was going to to pee,

like I always do.

That part—I can’t quite remember.

It’s blurry.

But this next part?

This part, I do.

Crystal.

Where I swore I heard it.

Those three words.

Uttered from your lips

Like whispers in the walls.

And suddenly -

A lightning strike across my chest.

I couldn’t swallow.

Felt my tongue float in my mouth.

Every taste bud standing at attention.

Frozen.

For you.

I swore you said it.

I just stayed quiet.

Let you decide

if and when it was true for you—

the way it was already true

for me.

But…

the more time that passes,

the more the silence builds,

the more I realize—

I must’ve hallucinated it.

My heart, laced with delusion,

Just trying to hear

The words you didn’t say
