The Need To Escape

I know you will kill me if I don’t

The Need To Escape

I should have felt safe

Wrapped in your arms.

You said we where real.

When I moved in with you

it all felt like the real deal.

Then I realised

you are a cheat

A killer a liar

and a gambling man.

I sit waiting for a chance

to escape to a safe place.

Yet don’t think that I can.

I didn’t know you were in prison

for murdering a guy.

I think you would kill me too

if I ever tried to say goodbye.

If I ever get enough money

then my chance will be right

to escape before you kill me too.

I a too scared to sleep at night.

I lie awake and stare at the door,

listening to your drunken snore.

Too many nights I’ve tried to run,

fear holds me down, like a gun

I keep my bag packed

It’s hid beneath the bed,

shoes by the door,

plans made ready in my head.

If I get caught, god help me.

I know what comes, next for me

your hands, your rage,

End of life, Then nothing,

Just the sound of the gun.

I hope one day I’ll slip away,

before the night turns into day.

And if you find me, if you chase,

I swear to God, I won’t be erased.
