The Names We All Forgot Mean Nothing

When they are gone they are at peace

The Names We All Forgot Mean Nothing

The names we all forgot mean nothing,

They slip through memory like rain,

We carried them once like scripture,

Then traded them for pain.

Grief has a selective language,

It remembers what cuts deep,

The rest dissolve into silence,

And learn how not to speak.

I said their names in private,

To see if they still lived,

Spiritual echoes answered back,

With nothing left to give.

Time erased them gently,

With no apology or sound,

Love does not preserve everything,

Some souls are not found.

We buried more than bodies,

We buried voices too,

The forgotten taught us early,

What loss is trained to do.

The past refuses responsibility,

It shrugs and moves along,

Leaving the living to explain,

Why remembrance feels wrong.

I wear their absence daily,

Like a coat I cannot shed,

Names fade faster than faces,

But silence keeps the dead.

Now meaning feels optional,

And memory feels thin,

The names we all forgot mean nothing,

Yet everything caves in.
