Unknowingly, I started that time ol’ machine

like a quarter dropped into a jukebox

A melody plays softly, setting the scene

and the clock on the wall, slowly tocks

The room starts to spin, it's one hell of a ride

and the next thing that I can remember

It's seven a.m., nineteen seventy five

christmas eve, on the farm, in December

There’s mom and dad dragging themselves out of bed

unimpressed with the noise and the hour

Mom stops a moment and opens the case

where she hides her caffeine and her vinyls

She puts on some Bing and the whole room transformed

we we’re unaware of magic we’d witnessed

Songs about family and when Jesus was born

all the reasons we celebrate Christmas

Transfixed by emotion that has caught me off guard

when the song ends, I’m sitting there crying

These days the holidays have kinda been hard

if you could buy nostalgia, god, I would be buying

But tonight I sit watching the lights on the tree

I know that my folks would be grinning

As I pull out that turn table mom gifted to me

and transport with the magic still spinning
