Embrace that Holiday Cheer

Everyone lives for that bright Christmas morning

When family convenes for festivities and cheer,

Exchanging presents and recipes with those gathered 'round them

And taking time to show love for all those they hold dear.

But what about the moments between?

Those days before the holiday bells ring,

Before stockings bursting with tiny tokens of affection

Are draped elegantly from each mantle and stair railing,

But after twinkling lights have been hung

And trees trimmed with care

Ornaments passed down through generations

Nestled twixt those of a modern flair,

When glittering garlands refract

Dancing orbs of red, white and green

And create prisms giving life

To magical worlds within their sheen.

When the icy winds howl

And flakes fall heavy outside,

But warmth fills your heart

From your preferred spot to hide.

Curled before a gently crackling fire,

Hot chocolate and freshly baked cookies sweetly

Warring warmly against the bite

Of the fresh evergreen that wafts discreetly.

Carols of chestnuts and marshmallow worlds

Dance deep within your soul,

Giving life to memories of tales

Of magical rabbits in hats and eyes of dusty coal.

Cozy blankets piled high upon your lap

Create the perfect stand for those well-loved pages

Of the book whose elegantly crafted tale

Pulls you back through the ages,

As attention flits between the daring adventures

And sweet romance which abound

Upon yellowed slices of the trees' greatest gift

And the magic all around.

It's in these perfect moments

Where peace and happiness resound

That the joy of the mystical Christmas season

Can truly be found.

Aw, this was so warm and lovely and vivid. I love the little moments in between too, maybe more than the event itself.
