I dreamt I was helplessly falling

But I never connected with the ground

My mouth opened wide - to release all the screams

But my lips never let go of the sound

I flailed my arms, like I was flying

But the air rushed by, like the thought

That I don’t have any control at all - in this realm

And that at the right time, I will be caught

But the scene is a loop, stuck on repeat

Falling again - time after time

The only thing changing - is the gasp in my throat

And the hour on the clock, at bedtime

Time seems to stop in the darkness

The moon casting shadows and grins

I lay in my bed, as if I'm paralyzed

And my dreams reveal all my sins

What else is there to be scared of?

The images I see - cannot be real

But my mind uses my doubts and my fears

My subconsciousness - Achilles heel

Mr. sandman can't wait till I'm nodding

falling asleep and into his grasp

Until the sunlight finally comes peeking

Freeing me from this prison, at last

I wonder if tonight I'll be falling

or drowning or losing my teeth

The moon is good at keeping me guessing

and making a monkey of me - literally

Still, I will crawl into bed - confident anyway

Not knowing for sure what's to come

Till the moon cycles clear through its phases

And its cycling's completely done

So, ignore the dark circles and sunken, puffy eyes

Sleep is a challenge for sure

The whiskey and sleep aids - help me catch some ZZZ's

And for now, there is no better cure

So, smile on moon - I'll catch you later

No hard feelings, you're just doing your job

I'll see you again on the flip side

Along with the sandman and his thingumabob

surreal poetry
