she was beautiful.
that was the first thing i knew
right in that moment
when she made her debut
i remember her gold hoops
and the tarnished opal ring
she reached into the back pocket
of light baggy levi jeans
she wasn't wearing any lipgloss
but her eyes were brightly orange shaded
colors like a sunset and i knew it wanted more and
i
waved
i think i waved
maybe it looked more like a swat
maybe she assumed it was a fly
but she still looked
and that's the thought
so i said "hi"
good think i’m sitting
otherwise i would’ve fallen
i was swooning, goofy grinning
anything to keep her stalling
her voice smooth but with a rasp
she said "hello", i said it back
and then she laughed
“do i know you?”
i smiled back
“well now you do”
she said
“you said hi to me twice”
i said
“hi how do you do”
it was a banter
that you dream about
where everything just clicks
and you’re making the right jokes
like the good part in the chick flicks
then she looks up
at the time
and you know she has to go
but she asks you for your number
and you juke her with a 'no'
then you reach into your jacket and you hand over your phone
and she texts herself a list of different dips and chips to buy
then she winks and hand my phone back
til' we meet again
goodbye.
