The Mind Plays Tricks

Especially when one is tired

The Mind Plays Tricks

The mind plays tricks in quiet hours

Turning shadows into more

Opening long forgotten places

Behind an unseen door

It whispers things that never were

And makes them feel so real

Until imagined moments

Become something we can feel

A passing thought grows heavier

Returning without sound

Small worries gather slowly

Until they circle round

It borrows from old memories

And colours what we see

Blending truth with wondering

In ways we barely see

The night can make it louder

When silence fills the air

Thoughts drift without direction

And seem to settle there

Yet morning shifts the feeling

And clears what felt unclear

What seemed so close in darkness

Feels different in the light

The mind can build reflections

That bend and softly twist

Though not every passing thought

Is one we need to keep

So when the thoughts keep wandering

And stories start to mix

Remember not all moments

Mean the mind’s own tricks
