THE LOVERS’ TALISMAN
Keeps love fresh and young

THE LOVERS’ TALISMAN
She wore their love
close to her heart,
a little talisman
where their story began.
He gave it to her
one summer night,
beneath a moon
drowning in light.
“Keep this,” he whispered,
“when I am gone,
it carries my heartbeat,
it keeps us as one.”
Years tried to break them,
distance had claws,
silence grew heavy
behind lonely doors.
Still that small talisman
rested against skin,
holding the memories
they buried within.
Whenever she touched it,
she felt him somehow,
the boy he had been,
the man he was now.
It remembered their kisses,
their laughter, their tears,
the promises whispered
through all of the years.
Then one autumn evening
he came through her door,
older and weary,
yet hers as before.
She opened her fingers,
the talisman shone,
and suddenly neither
had ever been gone.
For love leaves a magic
no years can destroy,
a spark in the darkness,
a sorrow, a joy.
And somewhere between them,
where two heartbeats ran,
love guarded forever
the lovers’ talisman.
