The Lover in the Shadows

Dark love and lust for the unknown

The Lover in the Shadows

He came to me one moonlit night,

His eyes were dark, his smile was bright.

He took my hand and held me near,

And whispered words I longed to hear.

His lips were cold against my skin,

I felt a fire burn deep within.

He promised love would never die,

Beneath the stars that filled the sky.

Each evening as the daylight died,

He held me gently by his side.

Within his arms I felt no fear,

I only wished to keep him near.

But shadows followed where he went,

And every rose had lost its scent.

The candles flickered in the gloom,

As darkness filled my lonely room.

Why did he fear the light of day?

Why must he always go away?

He kissed my lips and bowed his head,

Then spoke of lovers long since dead.

One night he led me through the rain,

Along a dark and lonely lane.

We reached an old and rusted gate,

Where I would learn his dreadful fate.

His name was carved upon a stone,

For many years he slept alone.

He looked at me with tearful eyes,

And told me love could never die.

I held him close against my breast,

And promised him eternal rest.

He begged me not to walk away,

But in his arms forever stay.

The midnight bells began to chime,

We kissed beyond the hands of time.

And as the darkness filled the air,

I knew that death was waiting there.

They found me lying by his grave,

Beside the love I freely gave.

And when the moon lights up the skies,

Two lovers from the grave arise.
