Memories in my nursing home so sad

The Little Girl in the Red Coat

I didn’t ask to be put in this home,
It was my family that did this to me,
And to be quite honest with you,
I’m as depressed as depressed can be.

I keep going back to younger days,
When everything was fine,
And that little girl in her red coat,
With curls that looked divine.

She was loved and she was wanted,
And cared for every day,
Her mother and her father,
Never pushed their girl away.

Then she grew up and married,
And children of her own she had,
Life was filled with happy moments,
And things were not so bad.

But then her husband passed away,
And life was not the same,
The family said they couldn’t cope,
And everything began to change.

They wouldn’t let me sit and watch,
My favourite television soaps,
And slowly all my happiness,
Turned into broken hopes.

They took me to this nursing home,
Like a cat or maybe a dog,
And left me sitting all alone,
With my thoughts lost in a fog.

They visit once a month or so,
And ask if I’m alright,
I pretend my head is in a fog,
And try to keep things light.

I cannot bear to look at them,
Or look them in the eye,
For knowing how they’ve treated me,
Just makes me want to cry.

I never thought my later years,
Would end up quite this way
