The Lights Are On

this one time in a park

By BrenPublished 2 years ago • 2 min read

i put half a sandwich in my pocket

cheese and chicken loaf;

jacket, left

and stumbled into the dark

i ended up at the end of my street

in the air up a tree in the park

i sat up there tripping balls

and looked to the night skies

(i stared for what seemed like hours in awe)

i was able to see through the every days

and its seriousy thin disguise

i saw an endless series of connections

beyond and of the constellations

i saw the birth and death of light itself

i looked to the heavens

mouth agape

starring into the shimmering show above me

each star winked like it knew my soul

daring, glaring into this glimmering glow above me

and each star was a part of the so many more

tears of chemical induced bliss

rolled from my eyes

and into the creases

of my lunatic grin

i could see in the stars

an end

about

to begin

a beginning unfold

into the now

the now became then

the then, a when

the start of a new end

and in this infinite zen

i was an ant

this was the scurry

lucky i had a sandwich in my pocket

i could feel my heart

deep down in my gut

up high in my throat

and everywhere in my mind all at once

a candle flickers in a cold dark window

but there's no one home

everything feels like

feels like a waste of time

or is it simply a time of waste

and a reality left way behind

a low wattage bulb shines dimly

no one is home

time itself is irrelevant

everything rides the pulse

man made constructs have no place here

and everything awaits, a new find

every single light is on

and still there's no body home

i yelled into the night

and the night it yelled back at me

i yelled once more

just to be sure

and then once more

just to see

then i heard it again

so clear and so plain

"get out of that bloody tree"
