The Lighthouse

"...thunder ensconcing with its every bang ..."

He waits alone like a meek and small mouse

Hoping that the sea might bring him a spouse

One that might then end his slumber and rouse

His life of searching from his bright lighthouse

+

Wind and rain never end their loud refrain

As they battered the lighthouse as they sang

Thunder ensconcing with it's every bang

Leaving no corner untouched by it's clang

+

Then shatter of oak and splinter of wood

Something new is here in the neighborhood

The small keeper hems and haws if he should

Leave his safe perch to see what has transpired

+

For moment his bravery stands tall

Even as rain and lightning fall

Focusing he can hear through it all

A woman's voice in sound and call

+

Swept her away from that terrible place

Brought to warmth in his safe and lighted space

Laid to rest and sleep in his bed and grace

He worried if she would still make it through

+

All her memories are shattered apace

But slowly she regains herself like grace

And he still cannot fathom her skins' glace

Carried by her ever so beaming face

+

Her company he enjoys and thus seeks

Solemn time and sublime conversation

In return she'll smile and caress his cheeks

As she finds herself at this light station

+

In time he summons up courage within

To tell the woman he wants to begin

A life that he's only dreamt of in past

With her alone until they breathe their last

+

She laughs and then coyly waits to respond

She tells him that indeed "they are quite fond"

Yet carries him no deep romantic bond

There would be no chance here for love to spawn

+

Devastated he barely lingers on

In the prison of fate that has been drawn

Drawn by her rejection and rainy dowse

In sadness while crying in the lighthouse
