The Lifetimes Between Us
A Prison Cell or a Starry Sky
The party is boring
But I’m smiling like
The sun is shining on me
Because I want you
To think that it is
❀
And when they ask me
About romance and butterflies
I tell them about the boy
From the beach who
Texts me and teases me
Because I don’t want
To mention you and
The years I spent
Loving you
Breaking for you
❀
You’re over there and
I’m all too aware that
Too many lifetimes
Stand between us and
The endgame will
Never be us because
Even though you
Look at her like she’s
More of a prison cell
Than a starry sky
I keep thinking about how
She gets to say you’re hers
And I don’t get to call you
Mine
