THE ICE SHATTERED AND LOVE MELTED
You walked away not looking back

THE ICE SHATTERED AND LOVE MELTED
The ice shattered beneath our feet
The day you walked away
And all the love we ever knew
Was melting into yesterday
I watched the frozen river crack
Like pieces of my heart
And wondered how two people
Could so easily fall apart
You once held me through winters
When the bitter winds would blow
And promised me forever
Beneath the falling snow
But promises are fragile things
Like ice upon a lake
You never hear them breaking
Till there's nothing left to save
I reached across the frozen years
To touch your hand once more
But you were just a stranger
Standing by an open door
The warmth we once had treasured
Had turned so bitter cold
And all the dreams we planted
Were dying as we grew old
I kept your winter photograph
Beside our empty bed
And whispered all the loving words
That should have once been said
The ice began to shatter
The thaw had come too late
For love had melted silently
Beneath the weight of fate
I watched the river flowing
Where once our footsteps lay
And knew that even broken hearts
Must face another day
But somewhere in that winter
Where our forever fell apart
The ice had finally melted
Yet winter stayed inside my heart
