The Hunt for the Beloved

Perfection.

By Novel AllenPublished about a year ago • 2 min read

I begin the hunt for idealism - for Perfection - Is it just a Fool's odyssey - Some say it does not exist.

Still I persist.

May Athena, Apollo, Aphrodite, and the Psychopomps each guide this seeker through realms of wisdom, perception, love, and understanding.

I, the hunter, stand at the center, poised between yearning and revelation.

I Hunt for the Beloved

In the silence between heartbeats, I heard her soft footsteps approaching-

It is the goddess Athena, whispering through the olive grove...the leaves stilled themselves in reverence...listening

Bowing in awe of her sacred voice

"Why Seek thee perfection, it is but the soul’s mirror which hunts itself in the impossible...

For in that place, wisdom dances with wild frenzy and disbelief.

Imperfection seeks Perfection - the opposite is also true

It is a forever hunt - for never the twain shall meet

Perfection does not, in itself, exist - Yet its darker twin lives and thrives".

I stood in shock at the revelation - knowing it to be true

I had set forth, bow unstrung, no arrows filling my quiver

Only impossible dreams carved in nights shadowy moonlight,

My compass was made of hope, wishes, yearning and longing.

Through dream-filled thickets I wandered,

Led by the god Psychopomps with eyes of lanternlight,

Spirit, deity, the creature guiding souls from the world of the living

To the underworld, the Afterlife

Guiding me past the gates to where the damned wait, unmasked.

Apollo sang from mountaintops,

His lyre strung with golden threads of fate:

"Look for the one whose silence harmonizes

With your chaos, whose laughter

Turns darkness into the light - into interplay".

I followed the music into the marrow,

Where voices became names, they called out my name

Here, where names became as prayers.

Then Aphrodite rose from the seafoam,

Her gaze a tide that pulled me under

"Beauty", she said, "is not in symmetry,

But in the way two shadows

Lean toward each other at dusk".

I knelt in the temple,

to wait -

For the one whose heart

Would entwine with mine,

The one who also hunted...

And found my soul.

Twin souls...fates intertwined.
