The House That Remembered Me
It was like this house was the biggest part of me

The House That Remembered Me
I walked into the house,
The silence knew my name,
The walls still held the past,
But nothing felt the same.
The curtains caught the light,
The pictures watched me there,
The rooms were full of ghosts,
That lingered in the air.
I touched the old wood table,
I heard the floorboards creak,
A thousand lost memories,
Came rushing to my feet.
The kitchen held old smells,
The hallway felt so cold,
I heard a distant whisper,
Of stories never told.
A picture stood alone,
Beside an empty chair,
I looked into those eyes,
And found my younger self there.
The house had kept my secrets,
The ones I could not share,
It held them in the dark,
And kept them safely there.
I thought I’d left it all,
Behind that wooden door,
But every room still knew,
The woman from before.
I stood beside the window,
And watched the evening fall,
I heard my own voice say,
“You’ve survived it all.”
I walked away at last,
And left the ghosts behind,
The house was still behind me,
But peace was on my mind.
I never lost that house,
It lives inside my heart,
Some places stay with us,
Though we may have to part.
