It comes without a warning

Bold, macabre embellishments

Fog machines and skeletons

That invitation, “Enter if you dare.”

A neighborhood in mourning

Monsters staged, haunts inflated

Every square foot saturated

In plastic doom and cinematic flair

Atmospheric scorning

Shrieking sentries with red eyes

Meant to capture by surprise

Gaudy terrors conjuring a nightmare

This fortress, gloom adorning

Fear that spills into the street

I’d better watch my back, my feet

Fight the urge to stop and stare

Time tricks with frights aborning

Halloween is mischief’s mate

Guess I’ll just have to wait

Inside, till Santa and his reindeer claim the air.
