Why your time and energy are too expensive to spend on the wrong person

Dating is actually quite costly, especially after entering the workforce. You’re not a student anymore; you can’t just see each other right after school, and arguments don’t simply disappear the next day. You have to carve out time from work for dates, spend money on meals, and sacrifice your already limited free time. Money, time, and energy—all of it is being burned.

And the risks are high.

You invest yourself, consider the other person’s feelings, stay up late with them, support them through their lows, and even change your lifestyle for them. Then one day, they might suddenly say it’s not right, or that their feelings have faded, and all your previous efforts feel objectively wasted. No one can give you back your time; no one can compensate you for your youth.

That’s adult dating—romance comes with a price tag.

So, dating really shouldn't be a compromise. Don’t just grab someone because you’re getting older, because your friends are all in relationships, or because you’re lonely. You’ve already invested so much; at the very least, you should get happiness in return.

If you’re going to date, find someone you truly like. Someone you’ll be happy to see every day, someone you won’t find tiring to talk to, and someone whose life you can share without feeling burdened. Even if you break up someday, you should be able to look back and feel that the time was sweet and worthwhile—a meaningful part of your life, not a drain on it.

Avoid those agonizing relationships filled with constant arguments, cold wars, and endless guessing games. When you spend money, time, and emotion only to end up exhausted, it simply isn’t worth it. Life is busy enough; there is no need to find a relationship that drains you further.

Love should make you better, or at least make you happy. If a relationship causes prolonged anxiety, self-doubt, and a loss of confidence, it isn’t love—it’s torture.

For adults, the most important thing isn't how handsome or "sweet" a person is, but whether the relationship is worthwhile. Time is precious and youth is short; use it to love the right person so you won't have any regrets.
