The Greenest Grass

watered by love so pure

They always say, “When you know, you know.”

Who are they and what do they know?

They say, “Give all of the love you have, and it will return to you tenfold.”

I was a child; I should not have been calculating love.

They told me, “When you are older, you will understand why this is what our love looks like.”

I have seen pure love; I was only ever given soiled loved.

Twenty-two years later and I finally understand.

That there is more joy, collectively, in the little moments you spend together than there will ever be in the big ones

There is more love in the passing kisses and subtle hand holds than there are in the times your locking lips turn heads of wonder

There is more passion in the way she looks back at you than in the way she looks at your unclothed figure

Because life is full of big moments

It’s all about finding the person you can share the little ones with

It’s all about loving the person who makes the little things, the big things, because there you will find the greenest grass, there you will find the purest love

The stars look brighter, my footsteps feel lighter, and my dear, the grass is greener
